This book was written to enrich lives. It is a story about helping people grow, build and change the world. The story of the Black Data Processing Associates (BDPA) is one of hard-working professionals growing careers, building communities and achieving success in the Information Technology (IT) industry. Earl A. Pace, Jr., BDPA Founder, Norman R. Mays, the innovative mover-and-shaker who put the BDPA onto the path to become a national organization, and Kenneth L. Wilson, the first founding member of the Cleveland chapter, wrote this book to memorialize the history of this groundbreaking organization. BDPA was born in 1975 because its founders believed African Americans in particular were marginalized in the burgeoning field of data processing, later known as information technology. Before BDPA, African Americans had been ignored, rejected, or pushed to the back of the employment line. This is where the BDPA story begins.
